Election of Officers & Program
Mon, October 16, 2023 @ 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm MDT
Program: “German-Prussian Genealogy: Essential Resources“
Presented by Mark Rabideau
Please join us for our Society’s election of officers and monthly program: “German-Prussian Genealogy: Essential Resources” by Mark Rabideau. Whether you’re new to Prussian/German research or just looking for more information, Mark’s presentation will provide new sources of hope, inspiration, and information.
German Genealogy is NOT like American, African, or Asian. There are numerous reasons why. Records are NOT in English; they are in: German, Latin, Polish, Hebrew, Russian (Cyrillic), etc. Information/ data is almost always very scattered. There is extensive record loss due to war(s), ethnic cleansing, etc. On top of those facts, German record keeping is neither as cohesive nor similar to that in North America. And adding to the challenge, handwriting & print type faces are often illegible to North Americans.
In this presentation, you will receive clues on how to navigate these ‘waters”.
This month’s meeting is a live in-person / virtual meeting* at the Mamie Doud Eisenhower Library, 3 Community Park Rd, Broomfield, CO 80020 starting at 6:00 pm (Mountain):
*Note: This meeting offers in-person as well as virtual options! If you’re a BGS member planning to attend virtually, keep an eye on your inbox for an email containing the Zoom link.
