BGS Tour of Historic Zang House in Broomfield

Come and join us as we visit the historic Zang House in Broomfield and learn more about the Zang family’s involvement with Broomfield.

History:  Adolph J. Zang moved to Colorado a few years after his father, Philip Zang. Philip had arrived around 1867 a few years earlier looking for gold.  Philip’s gold mining career didn’t last very long because soon Philip, who had previously operated the Phoenix Brewery in Louisville, KY,  was operating the Rocky Mountain Brewery for John Good.

Philip soon bought the brewing company from Good and named it Zang Brewing Company. Before Prohibition, the Zang Brewing Company was the largest producer of beer west of St. Louis.

During Prohibition, the Zang family divested its investments into mining, railroads, and other successful business ventures. Philip became one of the richest men in Denver.

Father and son purchased about 3,600 acres around 1879 north of Denver. Adolph (A.J.) was Philip’s only son married and had 5 children and took over operating the Zang industries.
